dc.description.abstract BACKGROUND: Success of the clinical hyperbaric facility is dependent on the use of it's services by Referring Physicians. Without their support, positive outcomes are greatly decreased. Development of a marketing plan to reach potential referring physicians and patients is needed in order for the facility to survive. METHODS: The establishment of a Physician Referral Base will be discussed. Key indicators used to establish this base include, Market demographics, physician specialties related to HBOT, insititutional and organizational referral sources, potential competition, marketing tools, sales methods, educational opportunities, and advertising venues. Interdepartmental marketing techniques are indentified for maintaining physician referrals and obtaining repeat referrals. RESULTS: Use of key indicators is effective in establishing a Physician Referral Base. Development and implementation of marketing plan techniques will result in patient referrals. Following the identified departmental protocols used for maintaining physician-patient communications will increase the number of repeat referrals. Utilizationof proven marketing tools and methods produces positive results in educating the public and medical community about the benefits of hyperbaric oxygen therapy. CONCLUSIONS: It is possible for the clinical hyperbaric facility to establish an active Physician Referral Base by using a well developed marketing plan. A team effort is required in order for the plan to be successful. en_US
