Title: [abstract] DEVELOPMENT OF ACCURATE VOLUMETRIC IV INFUSION IN THE MONOPLACE CHAMBER.
Author: Fabus, SV
Abstract: Since the early 1970's, equipment necessary to provide uninterrupted therapy in monoplace chambers has been dependent on the innovativeness of individuals modifying or adapting "off the shelf" items. Increased patient acuity and advances in medical technology challenge hyperbaricists to keep pace in providing ancillary support that operates in ever tightening performance parameters. Collaborative approaches with private industries and hyperbaric departments are one effective way of assuring these needs are met. St. Luke's Medical Center was involved in this type of approach with Abbott Laboratories resulting in the 3HB volumetric infusion pump; the first such pump designed for specific uaccurate timed drug delivery into monoplace hyperbaric chambers. Different IV infusion techniques, performance parameters and associated hazards and benefits will be discussed and contrasted as well as our experiences being involved in this project.
