Title: [abstract] NURSING CASE MANAGEMENT: A STRUCTURED TREATMENT PROGRAM FOR HYPERBARIC THERAPY
Author: Quinn, B
Abstract: Case management is generally described as a patient centered management system that combines quality care to the patient with cost considerations for both the patient and the payor. Case management enables the nurse to assume a leadership role in patient care by using clinical knowledge and expertise to recommend those clinical choices which will maximize the most desirable outcomes for the patient. Thus the nursing care manager in a partnership with both the physician and patient can provide the best coordination of services that is in the best interest of all parties involved in care. By applying case management to those conditions treatable by HBO therapy, continuous quality care for each patient can be provided by sharing responsibility for final outcomes among the physician, the RN and the patient.
