Abstract: INTRODUCTION: Our experience has demonstrated the need for a clinical PVHO to bridge the gap between mono and multiplace PVHOs in a cost effective, safety oriented and patient friendly manner. The result is the OxyHeal 2000, a three patient plus one attendant upright cylinder which can be manufactured in various configurations up to a version for twelve patients. METHODS: The vertical chamber's highlights include: 1) flat heads (top & bottom) welded in accordance with ASME Section VIII, Div.l and ASME/PVHO-l requirements 2) An attached or unattached control panel 3) Patented single patient entry door that opens or closes automatically or manually by sliding circumferentially inside the vertical chamber with a clear opening 83" high by 32" wide 4) Optional horizontal patient treatment extension that is bolted to a flange welded to the main vertical chamber 5) Two 16" viewports 6) Rectangular medical lock 7) Forty one (41) piping, electrical and medical service access penetrators 8) Minimum pressure/depth rating of 44.7 PSIG (3.0 ATA), 66 F.S.W. (20 M.S.W.) 9) Operating temperature range between 50° F / 10°C and 120° F / 49° C 10) SA516 grade 70 fine grain steel for heads, shells, door penetrators and flanges 11) Physical dimensions are, Diameter - 72" (1.83m), Overall height - 90: (2.29 m), Length (without patient ramp)- 11.5' (3.5 m) or (with patient ramp)-15.5' (4.70 m), Internal volume (main vertical chamber)- 196 cu.ft. (5.55 m^3) and (horizontal extension chamber)- 26 cu ft. (.74 m^3) and (Total Volume)- 222 cu ft. (6.29 m^3) and Weight (chamber)- approx. 6900 lbs (sub/system equip package) approx. 3775 lbs. The presentation gives an overview of the benefits and drawbacks found in: mono versus multiplace PVHOs; horizontal versus upright configurations; and square versus cylindrical hulls. The presentation will explore the concept phase of new PVHO design, design factors, the approval of new PVHO design characteristics through the ASME/PVHO process and the fabrication from flat steel to finished product.
